Most areas of San Jie Pu are hilly. The community is a classical agricultural village. It is secluded, silent and “green”. There are many well-known tourist spots, historic site and ecological places of interests: San Zhu Temple, Xie An Temple, Zhu Wei Zai, the Tian Chong Yang cluster, traditional three-section compounds, tobacco kilns, monument of Chi Lan Sewerage, Moonlight Forest Herbal Park, Chaiyi County Forestry Nursery and the Diao Qiao Tou Hokka cluster. San Jie Pu is really a precious place with ancient cultural assets.
In 45th year of Showa (1905), the Japanese colonial government has greatly promoted cultivation of tobacco plants in Taiwan, especially in Taichung, Chiayi, Pingtung and Hualien. San Jie Pu in Shuishang Township has suitable environment and pleasant weather so the tobacco it produced was of high quality and San Jie Pu was the major production area of tobacco in Chiayi. Zhan Huo Mao, the master building the tobacco kiln in Guo Xing Village, said “There are a hundred tobacco kilns in San Jie Pu at heyday”.
