Chan-Lin Temple is located on the mountainside of Mê Mountain in Chiayi County. It covers an area of 6 hectares and has long been famous for its numerous plum trees, totally about 3000, covering the whole temple. Besides, inside the temple,there are also various species of flowers blossoming, including peach flowers, azaleas and so on, serving as a fantastic scene in all four seasons. What’s more, the temple is also a suitable place for watching moon. No wonder why “Viewing both cherry blossoms and the moon in the temple” was one of the eight wonders in Chiayi in old days.
Sitting on the Zhi-Tou Mountain in Mê-Shan Township, Chan-Lin Temple is regarded as the Buddhist shrine there. The scenery in the temple is beautiful and sacred, and the main buddhist hall of the temple seems spectacular. This temple mainly worship the Guanshiyin, whose name means “observing the sounds of the world”. In front of the temple stand the bamboo woods, prevailing a peaceful, simple and elegant atmosphere.
Due to the sacredness of the Guanshiyin buddhist hall, pilgrims pay their visit to Chan-Lin Temple all over the year. It has long been the shrine for religion and spirits. Climbing up along the old stone stairs, visitors can both take in the panorama of Mê-Shan Township and enjoy themselves in the surroundings of the Buddhism’s mercy and aroma of the nature.
