County Belief-Guo Gou Jian De Temple Night watching with Torches_Title Picture

It is said that the residents of Guo Gou and Budau villages had fights at Yuan Jia port (Union Bridge today) that resulted in serious casualties. Even more, there were many public fish farms in the villages and many residents were drowned in the fish farms. Accordingly, ghost stories spread like wild fire. Li Royal Highness, the major God enshrined in Jian De Temple, divinely present to give instructions-to maintain the peace of Guo Gou Village and the safety of local residents through camping and night watching.

The ancestors soothed minds with religious beliefs. The night watching at the ends of June has been passed down for centuries; its purpose was to chase off ghosts and later becomes the torch culture today. Night watching with torches is not just a religious activity but contains spiritual meaning that has been passed down for generation and demonstrates the outstanding coherence of Guo Gou residents.
