“Tanayiku” mesans “a place of no grief and sorrow” in the language of Tzou Tribe.? As you arrive at the entrance area, you see arched doors full of aboriginal flavors, and it takes roughly 20 minutes to arrive at the observation area of Bar-cheeked toadfish walking on the path with trees on the side along the left bank of Tanayiku Creek; visitors can observe the fish swimming freely in the observation booth.? In addition, the Park holds a series of celebratory activities associated with its annual “Bar-cheeked Toadfish Festival”.? Visitors are welcomed to inquire for more details from the staff of the Association.
Heading upstream along Tanayiku Creek for approximately 1 km, you reach the “Butterfly Valley” which is over 600 meters in altitude with a complete and original forest phase.? Riparian forests that overshadow the sky are filled with wild flowers that provide an excellent survival space for butterflies.As such, there are over 30 species of butterflies in existence, and they are fruitful and multiplying – yet another precious, natural wonder.

The Village of Shanmei (Tanayiku)
On Sun Yat Sen Expressway: Take Jiayi Exist and drive on County Route 159 to Jiayi City.? Follow along Shisian Road and Wufong South Road to Alishan Expressway.? Turn right at 36 km mark (Longmei) and proceed to the Village of Shanmei; it takes approximately 1 hour.
Southern Expressway 2: Take Jhongpu Interchange towards Chuko, and connect to Alishan Expressway.? Turn right at 36 km mark (Longmei) and proceed to the Village of Shanmei; it takes approximately 1 hour.
Chashan Tribe

In the village are over 1 hundred tea-drinking booths, or what is called “hufu” according to the locals that is an open space for the tribal people to chit-chat, discusses different issues, or share food, sing or dance.? At nighttime, you can observe the stars in front of a bed-and-Breakfast place, drink nice tea or watch local dancing performances (reservations and advance payments are required!).

On Sun Yat Sen Expressway:
- Jiayi Interchange -> County Route 159 passing through Jiayi City -> Provincial Route 18 (Alishan Expressway) -> at 38 km mark (Longmei), turn right into Sinmei Industrial Road; time: 1.5-2 hours.
- From Kaohsiung on Jiayi Interchange -> County Route 159 passing through Jiayi City -> Provincial Route 18 (Alishan Expressway) -> at Provincial Route 3 in the Village of Jhongpu (towards Tseng Wen Reservoir) -> at 341.5 km mark, not passing Dapu Bridge, directly turn left at Route 129 and go up to Chashan.? It takes about 1.5 – 2 hours (Route 129 is not suitable for large buses).
On Southern Expressway 2: Jhongpu Interchange -> Provincial Route 18 (Alishan Expressway).? The rest is the same as the above 2.
Visitors from south of Tainan may take the mountain roads through the Village of Dapu, Jiayi County, or the Village of Sanmin, Kaohsiung County.? It is faster this way.

Day 2 Iudun Park of Ecology, water-accumulation area of Tseng Wen Creek
In the park area of Iudun Park of Ecology, tour guides are available to illustrate for the visitors the ecology of original forestry, and visitors may also walk along the creek, have fun on the water, et al.? As far as Tseng Wen Reservoir, visitors may observe the views of the largest reservoir in Southeast Asia.
Transportation
To ensure safety and convenience of touring on the mountainous areas, it is suggested that the visitors drive to the destination (no public transportation is available). |
