The Zihyun Temple draws thousands of visitors each month. Some come because the temple is especially old and popular; others come for the lovely scenery.
The temple dates back to 1682. Some of the wooden calligraphy tablets inside are 250 years old. As of December 2004, the temple was undergoing renovation, but still very much open as usual.
Next to the temple there is a 23-meter-high statue of Guanyin (the Buddhist goddess of mercy) - the tallest Guanyin monument in Taiwan, it is claimed.
From the temple, you can hike to Bantianyan itself (640 meters above sea level), or even as far as Three Treasures Mountain (altitude: 977 meters). |
