"Life Bean Festival” is held on around every November, when the fona flower grows and blooms, usually it lasts for 2~4 weeks. Especially, the activity is held at its peak in each weekend, and it usually attracts verified couples to come hand by hand, from couples who are infatuating each other, the newly-married couples to old married couples, under the atmosphere catalysis of collective wedding ceremony, the “Life Bean Festival” is further held with filling of fragrant of passion and affection.
The entire object of “Life Bean Festival” is Tsou Tribe’s traditional wedding ceremony. Except for the participating of the new couples from the Tsou Tribe, the general couples are also welcomed to participate; this activity even once attracted one foreign couple to participate. The wedding ceremony process ingeniously unified Tsou Tribe’s tradition, and first of all, the new couples must attend the Adult Ceremony, and all newly married couples will separately accept the admonition talk from the elders. Then the elders will give a light “spanking” on each couple’s bottoms twice, and it symbolizes that the adults must take more responsibilities. The elders will put the traditional leather hat on the groom and out the traditional headdresses on the bride. In addition, the newly married couples will shatter the congo gross battle that constructed by the solders, and then an exchange of trinkets is performed during which the bride gives her groom with a life bean flower and put it into the groom’s firearm, and the groom gives his bride a life bean and put it into the bride’s shawl bag. They then drink millet wine together from a bamboo vessel with two cups joined together. Finally, the newly married couples give a deep kisseach other, and at the same time they respectively receive blessings from the elders.
The “Life Bean Festival” activity is currently held in “Tsou Tribal Culture Display Park” at the 47.5-kilometer marker along Alishan Provincial Highway. The subject display park was collectively constructed, created and desiged together by eight groups of Tsou Tribe. They then attempted to construct the miniature of the tribe, which could display the distinctive cultural features of each tribe, including >Dabangu, Tfuya‘s tribal assembly, “Kuba”, Pnguu’s “Nepali Cliff”, lalauya’s maple forest, and so on. Display different fable stories and cultural expression by eight tribes as well as seven exhibition halls.? There are recreational activities, such as Tsou Tribal dancing and acting, an arena for couples’ lovely contests, Tsou Tribe’s agricultural products, handicrafts, delicacies, tea, and brave warrior experience. |
