Laiji Tribe is located at the mountain foot of Tashan in Alishan, with an elevation of 700-1000 meters above sea level. It used to be called Lalaji, a gathering place for Tsou aboriginal people. And they are divided into two tribes: the inner Laiji and the outer Laiji.
The Laiji Village at the bottom of Tashan often suffered from soil-stone flood and mountain collapse because they lived by the mountain. Tsou Tribe believed that Tashan Goddess' fury caused the disasters, so they needed a male symbol to calm her down. Therefore, they put up a huge wooden penis pole in the destroyed area to dismiss bad luck. After it worked, they believed it even more firmly, so they moved the 3-meter-tall penis to the entrance of the village, the start point of Tai 149 Jia Line Highway to enter Laiji Tribe. Since then, Chashan Tribe has “Pavilion”, Tabangu Tribe has “Kuba” for men to gather together, and Laiji Tribe has the giant penis, a very special indicator of mind.
Entering Laiji Tribe is like entering the Tsou Cultural Art Village. They used to use a lot of sculptured stone plats in architecture. Everybody knows how to remove stone pieces out of the river, pile them up and drill them into blocks. You can see the stone culture and the architectural feature everywhere: trail ways, yards, square fields, ditches, walls, etc. Besides, the weather here is very nice, the tribe is surrounded by mountains, and the scenes here are very beautiful. With so many farms around, the resources are abundant. On the other hand, Laiji is also called the “Forever Tribe underneath Tashan”. It means long lasting and inheritance. There are also plenty of cultural customs and tribe arts to share in the village, so it is worthy of a visit |

1.The South 2nd Highway:
Exit at Jhongpu->Towards Chukou,connecting with Alishan Highway->Go to Shihjhuo (at about 49 km of Tai 18 Line)->Turn to 169 Line Highway->Pass Fenci Lake,connect with Chia 155 country Highway and keep going,and you will arrive at Laiji.

1.Jhongshan Highway: Exit at Chiayi->159 Country Highway to Chiayi City->Go on Tai 18 Province Highway (Shihjhuo Rd,Wufong South Rd.),then go on Alishan Highway to go up to the mountain->go to Shihjhuo (at about 49 km of Tai 18 Line)->Turn to 169 Line->Pass Fenci Lake,connect with Chia 155 County Highway and keep going, and you will arrive at Laiji.
2.The South 2nd Highway:Exit at Jhongpu->Towards Chukou,connecting with Alishan->go to Shihjhuo(at about 49km of Tai 18 Line )-> Turn to 169 Line->Pass Fenci,connect with Chia 155 Country Highway and keep going,and you will arrive at Laiji.
