Jhuci Rural Township rises from less than 100 meters above sea level in the west, to more than 1,800 meters in the east. The farmers in the southwestern part of the district grow pineapples and tobacco; those up in the hills grow tea.
Fencihu has long been Jhuci's principal tourist resort, but between the plains and the trail to Dadongshan, there are several other places of interest. Dulishan, where the Alishan Forest Railway does its famous spiraling and switchbacking climb, is growing rapidly in popularity. In fact, the forest railroad is an excellent way of seeing the entire township. It passes two lowland stations - Laman and Jhuci - before Dulishan. On the ridge, it links the tiny settlements of Ciaoliping and Shueisheliao before heading to Fencihu. If you prefer to drive, County Road 122 (Jhuci to Ruifeng), and also the route up to Wenfeng and down to Dahu, are highly recommended. |
