Fanlu Rural Township is an intriguing shape. Most of the district is high in the hills, inland of Chukou on Taiwan Highway 18. Dahu Village on Road 159-Jia - one of the Chiayi County's most scenic routes - and a very thinly populated stretch of Taiwan Highway 3 both lay within Fanlu. But west of Chukou, a finger of land stretches as far west as Renyitan Reservoir and Chiayi City.
It's every bit as interesting to visit. The tea (and now coffee) growing areas of Siding and Longtou are good for overnight visits; get up in time to see the sunrise, and to enjoy the clearer skies of early morning. Purple Cloud Temple on Bantianyan is another popular destination, though it's a good deal closer to the city. More and more people are finding it isn't necessary to drive all the way to Alishan to enjoy mountain air and mountain views. |
