Look at a map of Dapu Rural Township, and you'll notice that a good portion of this district is under water. Zengwun Reservoir - the largest body of water in Taiwan, containing one-quarter of the island's fresh water - is the main sight here.
The watershed mountain ridges that surround the reservoir are up to 1,200 meters above sea level, and form the boundaries of the township. There are no towns, however, and few temples. To a large degree, everything is as nature intended.
In some respects (such as public transportation), Dapu is linked more to Tainan County than other parts of Chiayi County. Apart from Taiwan Highway 3, the only roads into Dapu Rural Township are twisting, narrow routes - one to the aboriginal settlement of Chashan in Alishan Rural Township, another to Pinglin and then Nanhua Reservoir in Tainan County - and the road from Tainan County to Zengwun Dam. |
